DAM/CMS Solutions and Beyond
The spectrum of choices for DAM and CMS have shifted dramatically in the last three years, with dozens of products consolidated into 'Enterprise Content Management Suites'.

Marcus Technology/Technodyne Corporation provides an alternative approach to the one vendor fits all. Our systems become the foundation for a new generation of multi-channel publishing.

We use best-of-breed components that can seamlessly combine Digital Asset Management, Collaboration/Workflow services, Soft-Proof integration, Web Content Management and Targeted Content Delivery.

We are committed to recommending, assessing and implementing these cross-platform enterprise solutions in a phased approach that builds a ‘solution stack’ structure. This insures that each individual component meets or exceeds it value and provides optimum flexibility to grow as the demands of your company increases.

A central, intelligent repository allows for managing all of the content created, licensed, produced and/or distributed. You can link disparate creative workgroups by unifying their separate silos of content into one integrated collaborative environment. This enables quicker content creation, production and simultaneous distribution across all publishing channels, from print and web delivery to wireless and digital syndication.

'Open Source' Venture
The Open Source movement is here and the industry is taking notice. At the core of our Open Source offering is an enterprise-class, digital asset management solution built upon an extensible, object-based architecture.
We are now able to solve the needs of our customers by using a variety of ‘Open Source’ applications working in conjunction with traditional proprietary licensed products.

Since we are continually developing, refining and packaging these solutions – you should call us for the latest project availability.

Effectiveness of Open Source
Eric Raymond's essay, The Cathedral and the Bazaar, presents a compelling argument on the effectiveness of ‘Open Source’ software projects; Eric defines 19 points to guide the administration of an open source project in a nurturing way. Users of ‘Open Source’ software also have access to its source code, and are encouraged to participate in its constant improvement. They may modify the source code to meet their unique needs, and are encouraged to share their bug-fixes and enhancements to the benefit of all users.

“While coding remains an essentially solitary activity, the really great hacks come from harnessing the attention and brainpower of entire communities. The developer who uses only his or her own brain in a closed project is going to fall behind the developer who knows how to create an open, evolutionary context in which feedback, exploring the design space, code contributions, bug-spotting, and other improvements come from hundreds perhaps thousands) of people.” - Eric Raymond

Today, there are over 67,000-registered free open source projects on http://www.sourceforge.org. These projects employ a broad range of software languages, architectures, standards and conventions. Please see the 'Open Source' section for more information.

Consulting
Experience & Approach:
One thing we have learned from our years in the industry, is that most manufacturers tell you what their system can do. We want to make you aware of what their systems will not do –ie., what is misleading in their sales pitch, or what has been omitted from their remarks about their software?
Our team is vendor agnostic and therefore is objective in the analysis ofa vendor’s proposed solution. After this analysis, we will make appropriate recommendations, based on your needs.

Current Services: Clarify business issues that you are facing in choosing a new DAM system.

  • Supply materials necessary to help analyze and create ROI documents, ROI calculator, etc. These materials would help clarify and cost-justify your purchase decisions.

  • White papers & similar case studies of successful DAM adoption and deployment that could help move things forward.

  • Help identify the various vendors' software solutions that would provide the most productive and cost beneficial way for you to secure your vision for having a Digital Asset Management system.

  • Supply competitive analysis documents on all appropriate vendors. We research and create detailed competitive analyses on most major DAM vendors. Results include the product’s software features & functionality, its strengths and weaknesses, as well as data culled from current business solutions.

  • Help to negotiate and close deal with the vendor of choice. Having a strong competitive vendor analysis will help reduce the cost of owning the system.

Systems Integration
Integration
In this enterprise market the integrator needs to be quick, intuitive, and able to turn on a dime. We look for new technological advances, coupled with current market trends, to help fill the gap. Our aim is to create individualized solutions that most vendors do not offer.

Workflow Analysis
Workflow
We intend to support project workflows such as the JDF standard, promoted by the CIP4 coalition and to the Open Business Engine (OBE), which is in Open Source. OBE supports the Workflow Management Coalition standards, including XPDL.
